On 14 August 2026, the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Thailand issued a notice to Chinese companies and citizens investing and conducting business in Thailand, urging them to strictly comply with Thai laws and regulations in order to promote sustainable and effective economic cooperation and investment between the two countries.
The key matters emphasized by the Chinese Embassy are as follows:
Lawful Business Operations: Operators must comply with Thai regulations concerning investment, licensing, and registration. The use of nominee shareholder structures or sham investments to circumvent foreign market access laws is prohibited, as is conducting activities beyond the scope of permitted authorization.
Labour Management: Chinese citizens and other foreign nationals must hold visas and work permits that are valid for their type of work and residency status in Thailand. Working without a work permit or using tourist visa status to conceal employment is strictly prohibited.
Local Cooperation: Chinese companies are encouraged to collaborate with Thai partners in areas such as technology development, personnel training, and the promotion of Thai labour employment, in order to raise local employment standards.
Social Responsibility: Respect for Thai laws, culture, religion, and customs and traditions is emphasized. Importance must be placed on workplace safety and environmental conservation, along with building good relations with local communities.
Dispute Resolution: Should any legal problems or disputes arise, they should be handled reasonably through Thai legal channels, with systematic collection of evidence. Consultation may be sought from relevant agencies or the Chinese Embassy if necessary.
The Chinese Embassy also provided contact details for relevant agencies, such as the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Thai Industries, in order to provide appropriate assistance and information to Chinese operators in Thailand.
