Sihasak visits Moscow, holds talks with Lavrovto strengthen Thailand-Russia relations across all dimensions, presses ahead with reducing trade barriers, seeks support to accelerate the launch of FTA negotiations between Thailand and the EAEU, exchanges views on geopolitical developments, the Myanmar situation, and Thailand-Cambodia relations, before jointly signing a plan for consultations between the two foreign ministries covering 2026-2030, in preparation for the 130th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027.
On 14 August 2026, Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkaew, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held bilateral talks with Mr. Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, in Moscow.
Both sides discussed approaches to promoting Thailand-Russia relations and cooperation across all dimensions — including political, security, trade and investment, agriculture, tourism, and cultural areas. The Thai side pushed for the facilitation and reduction of trade barriers, and requested support to accelerate the process of initiating free trade agreement negotiations between Thailand and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) as soon as possible.
Both sides also exchanged views on the international situation and regional issues, particularly the geopolitical context, ASEAN-Russia cooperation, other regional cooperation frameworks, the situation in Myanmar, and the Thailand-Cambodia situation.
On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation jointly signed the 6th Plan for Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation (2026-2030), to establish a framework for consultations and drive cooperation between the foreign ministries of both countries, which will help elevate Thailand-Russia relations — with 2027 marking the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
