Paetongtarn invites Anutin to join Thaksin for dinner in a private room following the Buddhist chanting ceremony for the body of Kriang Kalthanan. After the meal, the two exchanged brief words before Prime Minister Anutin went in to pay respects at the former prime minister's lap and saw him to his car.
On the evening of 14 August 2026, reporters said that after the completion of the Buddhist prayer chanting ceremony for the body of Mr. Kriang Kalthanan — former Deputy Minister of Interior and former leader of the Pheu Thai Party — held at Wat Mongkol Kovitaram, Pathum Sub-district, Mueang District, Ubon Ratchathani Province, the host family invited the prime minister and four former prime ministers to be photographed together with the Kalthanan family. However, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, did not appear in the same photo frame as the three former prime ministers from the Shinawatra family — namely Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra, Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, and Mr. Somchai Wongsawat.
Afterwards, Anutin joined family members and other attendees for a meal. The dinner was held in a private room that was off-limits to media photographers.
It was Paetongtarn who walked over to invite Anutin to join Thaksin for the meal. Anutin sat in the centre of the table, with Thaksin and Paetongtarn seated on either side of him, and Somchai also joined them at the table.
After the meal was finished, Anutin walked over to see Thaksin to his car, and the two exchanged a brief conversation.
Thaksin asked Anutin, "Where are you headed next, Prime Minister?" Anutin replied, "I'm heading back, sir."
Thaksin then got into the car, at which point Anutin approached and paid respects by prostrating at Thaksin's lap before Thaksin departed from the temple — all under the close attention of media who had been following the atmosphere after the conclusion of the funeral chanting ceremony.
