The entertainment industry has lost a celebrated actor and highly talented host, following the heartbreaking news that "Ray McDonald" died suddenly at his home in the Phatthanakan area, sending shockwaves through his peers in the industry.
For anyone who hears the name "Ray McDonald," the image that comes to mind across many generations of Thai people is that of a sharp-featured mixed-heritage young man with a captivating smile, who set new standards for the Thai entertainment industry — both as an award-winning actor and as a legendary travel host who sparked the inspiration in people to go out and explore the world.
Ray McDonald was born on 21 May 1977 in Roi Et Province. This Thai-Scottish mixed-heritage young man grew up with a lifestyle all his own. He completed his secondary education in the United Kingdom before deciding to return to Thailand to pursue his dreams and build his career.
In the 1990s, Ray was considered one of the icons of that generation's youth, thanks to his distinctive and natural acting performances.
- Crazy Dream Karaoke (1997) — his very first feature film, which fully launched his career.
- Love — Undesigned (O-Negative) (1998) — a coming-of-age classic that made the name "Ray McDonald" known and remembered throughout the entire country.
- Fake — Lying to the Whole Gender (2003) — another work reflecting the youth life of the 2000s that was very well received.
- Run to Galileo (2009) — a work that further cemented his acting credentials in a travel and backpacker role.
His outstanding talent led him to claim major industry accolades with great pride, including the National Film Award — Suphatsara (Suphannahong) — for Best Leading Actor for two consecutive years for Crazy Dream Karaoke and Love — Undesigned, as well as the Kom Chad Luek Award for Best Supporting Actor for Run to Galileo.
Beyond acting, Ray was also one of the most influential pioneers of hard-traveling adventure travel programmes in Thailand. His hosting style — warm, raw, sincere, and accessible — allowed his programmes to win the hearts of audiences for many years.
To this day, Ray continued to share his passion for travel through his personal online channel under the name "Rayron" (เร่รอน), conveying that even as time has passed, the adventurous spirit and authentic self of "Ray McDonald" remained clear and as fierce as ever, unchanged.
On the family front, Ray married "Maem Sarinya Jintanawararaks" after dating for more than 11 years. The couple lived together warmly and simply, and have one child together — "Nong Mika" — who is currently 8 years old.
