MGR Online — The DSI Director-General has authorized the Legal Affairs Division to file a criminal complaint with the Crime Suppression Division over the dissemination of documents from the investigation file in the Senate seat-rigging case, which has caused damage to its operations.
Today (25 Aug.), the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) released an explanatory statement saying: "Following reports that individuals have circulated documents constituting the investigation report of Special Case No. 24/2025 — concerning offences of secret society membership and related charges — through various public media channels, with said special case involving allegations that a group of persons conspired to carry out actions resulting in the unlawful acquisition of certain Senate seats:
The Department of Special Investigation has examined the images of the documents that appeared in public media and finds it credible that they are pages from the investigation report in the special case. Such actions cause damage to the criminal prosecution process, particularly at the pre-indictment stage, which is governed by legally prescribed procedures and prohibits disclosure until the case is heard in open court proceedings, or unless there is another ground permitted by law.
Such conduct and actions, in addition to causing damage to public confidence in the operations of the Department of Special Investigation, also constitute criminal offences under Sections 164, 322, and 323 of the Criminal Code, as well as other related grounds. Therefore, in order for an investigation to be conducted to establish culpability and to bring the offenders to prosecution and punishment under the law, the Director-General of the Department of Special Investigation has issued a letter authorizing a representative of the Legal Affairs Division to file a criminal complaint with the investigating officers of the Crime Suppression Division, given that this is a case of significant importance, so that a criminal investigation may proceed in accordance with the law.
The Department of Special Investigation wishes to emphasize that it conducts its operations with transparency and fairness. Should it be found that any officials are implicated in the commission of the offence, both criminal and disciplinary proceedings will be pursued decisively.
