Pharadorn reveals the Prime Minister is preparing to sign off on central budget flood relief for Nan residents at 9,000 baht per household before submitting it to the Cabinet tomorrow, while house repairs will follow existing DDPM criteria.
Today (24 Aug.), Pharadorn Prissananantakul, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, disclosed details regarding relief for flood victims, saying that when ministers travel to the affected areas they will receive a situation briefing. For a large-scale flood such as this, the government will expedite relief funds for the public as quickly as possible.
For the initial relief payment of 9,000 baht, he believes the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) will have already accelerated the process. It is expected that today the proposal will be submitted to the Prime Minister for his signature before it is brought before the Cabinet meeting tomorrow for approval of the central budget for public relief.
As for compensation for fatalities — two to three people in Nan Province — there are two components: the first is central budget approval, which the DDPM will propose to the Cabinet, and the second comes from the Prime Minister's Office Fund, which he has already discussed with the Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office. There are clear criteria: those affected by the flood will receive assistance from the fund in the amount of 80,000 baht. Combined with the fund money and the emergency central budget, the total is expected to amount to more than 300,000 baht.
Pharadorn further noted that the criteria for repairing the homes of those affected will follow the existing DDPM guidelines, which may require time for a survey to assess the damage that has occurred. The details of the various criteria are up to the DDPM, and under the process, local authorities must conduct on-site surveys of the damage before making assessments based on actual conditions.
