The National Police spokesperson has confirmed that the shooting incident inside Debsirin Nonthaburi School has ended. Six people have been confirmed dead — three teachers and three students — while the perpetrator is currently undergoing resuscitation efforts. The firearm used in the attack has been found to belong to a member of the perpetrator's family. Police are urgently investigating how the gun and ammunition were removed from the home, and are conducting a thorough inquiry into the motive.
Today (7 Aug.), Police Lieutenant General Trairong Phiwphan, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, provided an update on the shooting at Debsirin Nonthaburi School. He stated that officers have now taken control of the situation and brought the violence to an end. Authorities are in the process of investigating the cause, collecting evidence, and urgently providing assistance to the injured.
Preliminary confirmation puts the death toll at six — three teachers and three students. One perpetrator has been confirmed and is currently undergoing resuscitation by a medical team. The number of injured stands at 15, comprising 13 with general injuries and two in critical condition, all of whom have been transported to various hospitals for treatment.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong stated that police are not yet able to conclude the motive for the attack, as a thorough investigation must be conducted covering the perpetrator's behaviour prior to the incident, the surrounding environment, and personal background information. Officers have already contacted and been in touch with the perpetrator's guardians, and it has been established that the perpetrator was living with an elderly relative. However, in-depth details regarding the cause and motive remain under investigation.
A key issue currently under examination is the firearm used in the attack. Preliminary checks have found that the weapon is registered in the name of a family member — specifically, the perpetrator's grandfather.
The National Police spokesperson noted that although it is now known that the firearm belongs to a family member, it must still be thoroughly investigated how the perpetrator was able to remove the gun and ammunition from the home, how the firearm was stored, as well as the origin of the ammunition and the full chain of access to the weapon — all of which are critical points of the current investigation.
"At this point we only know that the firearm is registered to a family member. As for how the perpetrator removed the weapon and what the exact details are, we ask that those matters follow the investigative process," said Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong.
Regarding the management of the scene, all injured persons and the deceased have now been removed from the area. National Police Commissioner Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet has ordered Deputy National Police Commissioner Pol. Gen. Thana Chuwong to go to the scene personally to oversee and direct operations, and to expedite clearing the area, examining evidence, and producing a detailed map of the incident site.
In addition, the National Police Commissioner has instructed the chief physician of the Police Hospital to dispatch a team of psychologists and mental health specialists to the scene to provide psychological care to teachers, students, and those affected by the incident, in order to help heal the loss and reduce any long-term psychological impact that may arise.
Police officers will proceed to examine physical evidence, CCTV footage, witness testimonies, and the full chain of firearm ownership in detail, in order to uncover all the facts and reach a conclusion on the cause of this deeply shocking incident.
