A network of four egg-farming cooperatives has announced yet another 20-satang-per-egg increase in mixed-grade farm-gate egg prices, pushing the price up to 4 baht per egg, effective from 7 August 2026 onward — despite the Department of Internal Trade having held talks in July 2026 and reached an agreement that there would be no further hikes, only for prices to rise again in defiance of that understanding.
A reporter has noted that the four cooperatives in the network — Paet Rio Egg Farming Cooperative, Limited; Chonburi Egg Farming Cooperative, Limited; Chiang Mai–Lamphun Egg Farming Cooperative, Limited; and Lum Mae Nam Noi Egg Farming Cooperative, Limited — have announced an increase in mixed-grade farm-gate egg prices of 20 satang per egg (6 baht per tray of 30 eggs), from 3.80 baht to 4.00 baht per egg, effective from 7 August 2026 onward.
This latest increase is a continuation of a previous hike, following an earlier announcement on 6 July 2026 that raised prices from 3.60 baht per egg to 3.80 baht per egg — also an increase of 20 satang per egg.
After that, the Department of Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce, invited the four-cooperative network to discuss the reasons behind the price increase. It emerged that the causes stemmed from rising production costs and hot weather, which had caused hens to lay fewer eggs, while farmers had been shouldering heavier cost burdens — including higher feed costs, energy costs, and farm management costs — since March 2026. The department therefore agreed to allow the price increase, but on the condition that prices would be brought back down if the cost situation improved. The farmers had indicated that from August 2026 onward prices would be adjusted downward — but when the time actually came, not only did prices not fall, they were raised even further.
