Death toll from flooding in Pua and Tha Wang Pha rises to 2; over 8,000 households and 16,000 people affected

Nan — In a tragic development, the death toll from the floods in Pua and Tha Wang Pha districts has risen to two. One victim was a bedridden patient who was swept out of their home by flash floodwaters, while the second body was discovered by rescue workers amid the floodwaters in Tha Wang Pha. At least 7 sub-districts, 60 villages, 8,000 households, and more than 16,000 people have been affected. The latest reports indicate that floodwaters in Pua are beginning to recede, but the flow is continuing downstream into Tha Wang Pha.

Today (19 Aug.), a correspondent reported on the latest developments regarding the flood situation in Pua District, Nan Province, stating that 7 sub-districts, 60 villages, and 8,000 households have been affected, with more than 16,000 residents impacted. Two fatalities have now been reported.

The first victim was a bedridden patient who was unable to care for themselves and lived with their mother in Village No. 8, Sila Phet Sub-district, Pua District, Nan Province. The person was swept out of the house by flash floodwaters and found dead outside the home. The second case was reported by the Phet Kasem Foundation, which had entered the area to evacuate residents. A body was found — that of a man aged approximately 45–50 years — in the area of Village No. 1, Ban Fai Mun, Pa Kha Sub-district, Tha Wang Pha District, Nan Province. This brings the confirmed flood-related death toll to two. Flooding has also been reported in Santi Suk District and Mae Charim District.

At present, floodwater levels in Pua District have begun to drop, but the entire body of water is flowing downstream into Tha Wang Pha District. Communities in high-risk areas along the Nan River and its tributaries are expected to be hit by flash floods.

Red-level critical flood warnings have been issued for Ban Chiang Yuen in Yom Sub-district and Ban Na Tao in Rim Sub-district, Tha Wang Pha District, where water levels are continuing to rise. It has also been reported that a section of the lower Woranakhon Road at Tha Wang Pha market is no longer passable by vehicles. Evacuation operations have been carried out to move four vulnerable patients and residents trapped in their homes at Ban Fai Mun out of the critical zone.
