MGR Online — Neth Pheaktra, Cambodia's Minister of Information, has shared an investigative article published in the French magazine Le Figaro about the situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
Neth Pheaktra stated that the lengthy article, written by journalist Jean-Luc Moreau Deleris following his visit to Cambodia in March 2026, describes Thailand as an "aggressor" that has occupied parts of Cambodian territory.
He claimed that the Le Figaro article underscored the damage inflicted on Cambodia's cultural heritage, including Preah Vihear temple and Ta Kwai temple, and also highlighted the legal and historical basis of Cambodia's claims, citing the Franco-Siamese treaties of 1904 and 1907, border maps, the 1962 International Court of Justice ruling, and its 2013 interpretation. He noted that this was particularly valuable because it was not written out of emotion but was grounded in court documents and history.
Neth Pheaktra further stated that the article portrayed Cambodia as the militarily weaker party under attack, while at the same time emphasising Cambodia's pursuit of a resolution through diplomacy and international law.
He also said that the article described Thailand as the militarily stronger party, accused of using force and attempting to create facts on the ground and alter the situation in the area.
The report also featured photographs taken by the journalist during field reporting in Preah Vihear Province, Oddar Meanchey Province, and Banteay Meanchey Province, and these photographs were further displayed in an exhibition for the public to see the situation unfolding in Cambodia, Neth Pheaktra stated.
