The Fine Arts Department invites the public to visit the special exhibition "Siam Phatsatraphon Philai: Honouring the Queen Mother," organised to pay tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother, from 12 August to 4 October 2026 at the Issara Winitchai Throne Hall, the National Museum Bangkok, Bangkok. Inside the exhibition, visitors will encounter rare Thai textiles, fine-art costumes, and exquisitely beautiful, highly precious Thai fabrics and weavings, including sampak pum cloth, sin thio muk chok dao skirts, Chiang Saen skirts, sin mee ta to teen chok skirts, and jwan Tani cloth, among others.
The Fine Arts Department invites the public to visit the special exhibition entitled "Siam Phatsatraphon Philai: Honouring the Queen Mother," which has been organised to express boundless gratitude for the immeasurable royal grace of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother, who has preserved, revived, perpetuated, developed, and promoted fine-art works in the category of textiles and costumes, making them enduringly beautiful and precious artistic treasures of the Thai nation.
The exhibition presents knowledge about Thailand's beautiful fabrics and textiles, with a particular focus on outstanding handwoven cloths of various types from each region of the country. These have been selected from national museums both at the central and regional levels, the National Museum Central Storage, and the National Library, totalling 111 items on display, including Som pak pum Cloth, sin thio muk chok dao skirts, Chiang Saen skirts, sin mee ta to teen chok skirts, and jwan Tani cloth.
The exhibition is divided into five thematic sections: 1. The Making of Woven Cloth — recounting the history of cloth produced by human hands, from ancient times through historical evidence such as fired clay spindle whorls and clay rollers; 2. Shuttles, Looms, and Frames: The Way of Weaving; 3. Ethnic Attire; 4. Sacred Fabrics — including scripture-wrapping cloths, textiles used in various rituals, and the sacred-yantra shirt of Luang Pho Jong of Wat Na Tang Nok; and 5. Perpetuating Siamese Textiles Through Royal Grace.
The special exhibition "Siam Phatsatraphon Philai: Honouring the Queen Mother" is scheduled to be open for visitors from 12 August to 4 October 2026 at the Issara Winitchai Throne Hall, the National Museum Bangkok.
