The Department of Cultural Promotion, Ministry of Culture, is pressing ahead with the promotion and development of personnel in Thailand's content industry through the Screenplay Capability Development Project to elevate Thai talent into the film, drama, series, documentary, and animation industries (Thailand Screenplay to Content Industry Program: SCIP). The project is operated by Kantana Group Public Company Limited, a company with longstanding experience in Thailand's film and television industry — from the era of radio drama to the age of digital platforms — and one that recognises the importance of "the script" as the starting point of all content creation.
The company has therefore brought its experience and body of knowledge to bear in developing Thai screenwriters through intensive training activities designed to build knowledge, scriptwriting skills, and project development, led by experts and experienced industry practitioners, in order to give participants the opportunity to advance their potential and their work towards effective careers in the content industry. This took place on 7 August 2026 at 10:00 a.m.
Mrs. Yuthika Israngkura Na Ayutthaya, Director-General of the Department of Cultural Promotion, Ministry of Culture, honoured the occasion by presiding over the project's opening ceremony, at which Ms. Jitlada Kanjarak, Executive Chairperson of Kantana Group Public Company Limited, delivered a report on the project's objectives. The ceremony was held at Somerset Ekkamai Bangkok hotel. The project is divided into three phases: the Intensive Class — training to lay the foundational knowledge of scriptwriting by Thai instructors; the Immersive Program — in-depth script and project development in collaboration with leading experts and practitioners from Thailand's and South Korea's content industries; and a Pitching activity — a stage for presenting developed projects to producers, operators, and key players in the content industry, in order to create opportunities for the work to progress towards actual production.
For the Intensive Class training, held from 7–9 August 2026, participants learned and delved deeply into scriptwriting across four genres — Horror/Thriller, Drama, Comedy, and Action — under expert instructors: Dr. Sanrat Jirabornwisut (Horror/Thriller), Instructor Phat Pattanakamjorn (Drama), Instructor Rangsima Akrrawiwat (Comedy), and Instructor Chanchanа Homcap (Action). Topics covered ranged from "Current Trends in Film, Series, and Television Drama Scripts," "Genre Study," "Plot-Driven Scriptwriting," "Character-Driven Scriptwriting," and "Scriptwriting Principles for New Media and Various Platforms," all the way to "The Scriptwriting Experiences of Instructors Across All 4 Genres," so that participants could understand the different storytelling approaches and techniques of each genre and apply them to advancing their own work.
The session was also honoured by a special guest instructor, Mr. Arthit Ariyawongsa (Arm), director and screenwriter from Tham Studio 19 Company Limited, who shared his experiences and perspectives on storytelling for modern media.
Following the Intensive Class, the project will move forward into the Immersive Program — an in-depth project development phase separated by the four genres: Horror/Thriller, Drama, Comedy, and Action. Leading experts and practitioners from Thailand's and South Korea's content industries have been invited to share their experiences, exchange perspectives, and provide close guidance on participants' script and project development, in order to open up creative viewpoints from both the Thai and Korean industries, while strengthening the work in each genre and preparing it for advancement into the industry.
Projects developed and selected through the SCIP programme's selection process will be given the opportunity to present their work through the Pitching activity to producers, operators, and key players in the content industry, in order to directly connect the work to the industry, open a space for the exchange of perspectives, build business networks, and increase the chances of the scripts and projects developed throughout the programme advancing towards development, investment, and actual production in Thailand's content industry.
