Xinhua News Agency reported (28 Aug.), citing the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, on the removal of Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli from their positions on the State Central Military Commission (CMC).
In January 2026, China announced the investigation of two former generals as suspects in serious violations of Party discipline — namely Zhang Youxia, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission and a member of China's Politburo, which is the country's most powerful political body, and Liu Zhenli, a member of the Central Military Commission and Chief of the Joint Staff Department of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
China has a parallel dual structure for its Central Military Commission (CMC) — the CMC of the Chinese Communist Party and the State CMC.
Today's statement (28 Aug.) concerns the removal from positions on the State CMC.
No official announcement has yet been made regarding the removal of Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli from the Party CMC.
