Sriracha News Center — Immigration police, tourist police, and officers from Bang Lamung Police Station joined forces to rescue a 22-year-old Chinese woman and her 3-month-old daughter after her husband approached authorities for help, alleging that a group of fellow Chinese nationals had abducted and threatened her. Three Chinese suspects were taken in for questioning, and one of them was found to have overstayed his permitted period of stay in the Kingdom and to have an outstanding arrest warrant for fraud.
Reporters said that Pol. Col. Naphatpong Khositsurimanee, Chief of Chonburi Immigration Police, together with Pol. Lt. Col. Prapda Suksuntree, Inspector of Tourist Police Station 4, Sub-Division 2, Tourist Police Division 1, led immigration police officers, tourist police, and plainclothes investigators from Bang Lamung Police Station to rescue Ms. Guan Wenxiu, 22, a Chinese national, along with her 3-month-old daughter and one Myanmar woman, at a location inside Soi Na Kluea 16, Na Kluea Sub-district, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province.
At the same time, officers detained three Chinese nationals — Mr. Liu Zhongping, Mrs. Liu Xiaoxia, and Mr. Liu Minglong, 37 — for questioning.
The rescue operation stemmed from an incident on 5 August, when Mr. Luo Fei, 26, a Chinese national and the victim's husband, went to tourist police to request help in locating his wife and 3-month-old daughter after they disappeared from a village in Takhian Tia Sub-district, Bang Lamung. He alleged that Mr. Liu Minglong had threatened to harm his wife and child because he had previously attempted to flee the group and had been detained before.
Through investigation, officers gathered information indicating that the victim had been taken to a resort in Nong Pla Lai Sub-district, Bang Lamung. During that time, Mr. Luo Fei was still able to contact his wife by phone, but she refused to disclose her location.
Later, after the group of suspects learned that officers were tracking them, they brought the Chinese woman and her daughter and left them in the area of Soi Na Kluea 16 at around 2:30 a.m. on 6 August.
Most recently, today (7 August), Pol. Sub. Lt. Ekchai Chai-amporn, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) of Bang Lamung Police Station, took a statement from the Chinese victim, who told officers that prior to the incident she had argued with her husband and decided on her own accord to go and stay elsewhere.
However, police officers are not yet convinced by that statement, as the evidence and testimony from multiple parties involved still contain contradictions. They are therefore in the process of gathering evidence and thoroughly investigating the facts in order to determine whether the case constitutes unlawful detention or any other offence.
As an initial measure, officers have charged Mr. Liu Minglong with overstaying his permitted period of stay in the Kingdom by 56 days. A background check also revealed that he had previously been arrested under a warrant issued by Pattaya Provincial Court in connection with charges of joint fraud, forgery of official documents, use of forged official documents, and entering false information into a computer system, as recently as last June.
The other two Chinese suspects remain under investigation. Should they be found to have been involved in any criminal act, officers will pursue legal proceedings accordingly.
