(Clip) Nakhon Ratchasima Railway Station Resumes Normal Service; Only Tracks 2 and 3 Closed After Summer Storm Brings Platform Crashing Down onto Tracks

Nakhon Ratchasima News Center — Nakhon Ratchasima Railway Station has resumed normal service, with only tracks 2 and 3 closed to train operations. Trains are running on tracks 1, 4, and 5 following a summer storm that caused a platform to collapse onto the tracks along a stretch of more than 70 metres. Passengers remain confident, continuing to use the railway service because of its safety and affordability.

A violent summer storm struck the Nakhon Ratchasima municipal area during the evening of yesterday (17 April 2026), causing Platform 2 of Nakhon Ratchasima Railway Station to collapse onto the railway tracks and the chairs where passengers had been waiting to board. Fortunately, no one was injured or killed, as during the storm and strong gusts of wind, passengers had walked inside the station building, and some had just disembarked from a train and walked out from under the roof of Platform 2 just in time, meaning no one was harmed. However, the collapsed section of Platform 2 extended approximately 70 metres in length and had to be closed immediately.

As of this morning (18 April 2026), a reporter went to observe the atmosphere at Nakhon Ratchasima Railway Station and found that members of the public were still using the service as usual. The station made an announcement that passengers waiting to use the service may board from tracks 1, 4, and 5, while tracks 2 and 3 remain closed. Railway Maintenance Division Region 2 must first clear the debris from the collapsed platform sections and make the tracks safe before trains can run on tracks 2 and 3 again as normal. The work is expected to be completed this afternoon.

Passengers waiting at the station said they remain confident in travelling by train, as they consider it the safest mode of transport with affordable fares. As for the platform collapsing due to the storm, they said it was more likely an accident, compounded by the fact that Nakhon Ratchasima Railway Station has been in use for a very long time, making an incident of this kind possible.
