Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi openly complimented Anutin right in the middle of Government House, saying "You look very handsome," to which the Thai Prime Minister modestly replied, "Less handsome than you" — drawing laughter before talks began to strengthen Thai-Chinese relations.
At Government House, on April 24 at 11:00 a.m., Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul, along with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow, received H.E. Mr. Wang Yi — member of the Political Bureau, Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission of the Chinese Communist Party, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China — who called on the Prime Minister during his visit to Thailand as a guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The moment Wang Yi arrived, he and the Prime Minister greeted each other warmly with a handshake. Wang Yi also paid a compliment to the Prime Minister in Chinese, saying "You look very, very handsome," which prompted the Prime Minister to smile and reply, "Less handsome than you." Wang Yi burst into good-humored laughter at the response. The Prime Minister then invited Wang Yi to pose together for a commemorative photograph on the occasion of his visit, before the two sides began discussions to strengthen Thai-Chinese relations.
