Gold won't stop! Up another 250 baht, closing in on 70,000

Today's gold price (12 Aug 2026): Gold opened higher by 250 baht, pushing the gold bar selling price to 68,950 baht and the gold ornament selling price to 69,750 baht.

The domestic gold bar buying price stands at 68,500 baht per baht-weight, with the selling price at 68,700 baht per baht-weight, according to today's 26th announcement.

For 96.5% gold ornaments, the buying price is 67,128.48 baht per baht-weight and the selling price is 69,500 baht. The international gold price, or Gold Spot, is at USD 4,379.00 per ounce.

Hua Seng Heng noted that gold prices were supported by expectations that the Fed may not rush to raise interest rates, after U.S. non-farm payrolls for July fell by 23,000 positions, contrary to market expectations of an increase of 88,000 positions. Meanwhile, investors are watching tonight's release of the U.S. July CPI figures. The market expects the CPI index to slow to 3.4% from 3.5%, and Core CPI to decline to 2.5% from 2.6%. If inflation comes in below expectations, it would bolster hopes for monetary policy easing and be a positive factor for gold.

In addition, uncertainty surrounding the opening of the Strait of Hormuz — after Iran signalled it will continue to keep the strait closed if the United States does not accept conditions for ending the conflict — will continue to support gold as a safe-haven asset. However, rising oil prices due to supply-side risks may add inflationary pressure and limit the Fed's chances of easing, while a slightly stronger dollar remains a headwind for gold, making tonight's CPI result the key focus for the market.

Economic figures to watch

Tonight at 19:30, the United States will release the Consumer Price Index and the Core Consumer Price Index, both monthly and annually.

Gold price analysis

Gold prices, which have been trending upward, may continue to recover further, with a target level of USD 4,435 — a key resistance level that prices may still find difficult to break through.
