Cambodia Opens Old Phnom Penh Airport as Public Park for Khmer New Year

Cambodia will open the old Phnom Penh International Airport to the public from April 11-19 as a temporary public park to celebrate the Khmer New Year festival. The nine-day trial conversion will allow residents to use the airport grounds as an exercise area and to tour the airport buildings and facilities. The initiative marks a new use for the defunct airport, transforming the site into a recreational space during Cambodia's most important annual celebration. Khmer New Year, known locally as Choul Chnam Thmey, is typically observed in mid-April and is a major cultural occasion for Cambodian communities.
